CNN —The “Sonic the Hedgehog” movies weren’t particularly good, but they had Jim Carrey and made a lot of money, so inevitably, there’s more. Lacking Carrey to help carry the load, “Knuckles,” spun out of that game-to-screen universe, isn’t just bad, but a next-level degree of bad, starting with the puzzling question of for whom this six-episode Paramount+ series was made. Despite only six half-hour episodes to complete the trek from points A to B, “Knuckles” goes nowhere fast and doesn’t seem to be in much of a hurry to get anywhere. “I do not make jokes,” Knuckles tells Wade. “Knuckles” premieres April 26 on Paramount+.

For months, battered by President Biden’s dismal 2024 re-election polls, Democrats have been undergoing a kind of collective nervous breakdown over Mr. Biden’s re-election prospects against Donald Trump. Following Mr. Trump’s victory in New Hampshire and with the unofficial start of the general election campaign, there is no reason for the Biden team to panic. Polls at this stage of the race are almost always a referendum on the incumbent instead of a clear choice. Still, the president’s bad polls and a stubbornly low approval rating are, or should be, more than just grist for Mr. Biden’s critics. Joe Biden has yet to explain clearly why he’s running for a second term.

Cancer changed my macho views on accepting help

I assumed I could fight cancer on my ownI’m not wired to cry, and it’s not just because I’m a man. Drawing on my lineage as I faced cancer, I didn’t think I was one of those weaklings who would need help. Friends who had battled cancer offered advice, grocery shopping, respite care and rides to doctor appointments. There was no cancer in the 34 lymph nodes that were removed, which means there is little chance it spread. Even so, in case there are undetectable stray cancer cells, I will undergo five more chemotherapy sessions.

But the crimes Mr. Meadows is accused of are orders of magnitude greater than those of his predecessors. Mr. Meadows didn’t just act as a doormat to President Trump; he seemed to let everyone have his or her way. This made no sense, but it was just the way Mr. Meadows rolled. As part of the efforts to subvert the 2020 election, Mr. Meadows paraded a cast of incompetent bootlickers into the Oval Office. All the while, the indictment shows that Mr. Meadows was sharing lighthearted remarks about claims of widespread voter fraud.

Mark Meadows' alleged crimes are worse than Watergate figure HR "Bob Haldeman," an expert says. Chris Whipple, an expert on White House chiefs of staff, said it was entirely predictable how Meadows got indicted. Meadows, Whipple added, "may be on the same track" as Nixon White House chief of staff HR "Bob" Haldeman to become the second former White House chief of staff to serve prison time. White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows listens as President Donald Trump speaks to the press outside the White House on October 30, 2020. "I think being Donald Trump's White House chief of staff was Mission Impossible," Whipple said.

Biden reportedly yells at White House staffers behind closed doors, sometimes in profanity-laced comments. The image of an angry Biden contrasts with the president's more avuncular public persona. Chris Whipple, who wrote the definitive book on White House chiefs of staff, said that the current commander-in-chief "definitely" has a temper. It may not be as volcanic as Bill Clinton's, but it's definitely there," Whipple told Axios. In his book about the Biden White House, Whipple wrote how then-White House press secretary Jen Psaki told Biden she knew she had gained his trust when he would finally unload on her.

CNN —The Geminid meteor shower, which lights up the sky each December, is one of the most active and dependable celestial displays of the year. Now, astronomers using NASA’s Parker Solar Probe have gained more insight into the underlying cause of the Geminids. The meteor shower was first recorded in 1862 and appears to radiate from the Gemini constellation. The Geminid meteor shower streaks across the night sky over the Lhasa River in Tibet on December 14, 2022. It’s the first asteroid to be associated with a meteor shower, and it measures about 3.17 miles (5.10 kilometers) across.

In addition to the subject’s fascinating life — among much else, she was Virginia Woolf’s muse and longtime lover — I always enjoy books about that era. What’s the most interesting thing you learned from a book recently? I recently finished a book called “1215: The Year of Magna Carta,” by Danny Danziger and John Gillingham. Our political system and government. You’ll find more recent examples of the genre — especially those by David Baldacci and Daniel Silva — on my shelves, too.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren has made two calls to Vice President Kamala Harris, who hasn't returned them. Warren wanted to apologize for a comment that appeared to cast doubt on Harris' future as VP, per CNN. A source close to Harris told CNN that the incident was "pretty insulting." Warren, however, has not been able to speak with the vice president since, the outlet reported. Instead, Warren has only communicated with Harris' chief of staff, Lorraine Voles, who returned Warren's call in lieu of the vice president, CNN reported.
By early 2019, Trump had cycled through seven of 15 Cabinet secretaries and was on his third chief of staff. A White House official said Mayorkas would fight any such attempt and has no wish to step down. The durability of Biden’s Cabinet is something of a surprise. Going back decades, presidents have steadily concentrated power in the White House, at the Cabinet’s expense, historians say. Some Cabinet secretaries have felt marginalized as presidents stocked the West Wing with trusted advisers and usurped the prerogatives of Cabinet members who had thought they were brought in to run things.
Biden is preparing in case Putin decides to use nuclear weapons, his chief of staff said in October. Biden is "'very focused on being prepared in case Putin does it, and trying to figure out what we can do to deter him,'" Ron Klain said. White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain told author Chris Whipple, in an October interview, that the prospect isn't outside the realm of possibility. "Those who try to blackmail us with nuclear weapons should know that the prevailing winds can turn in their direction," Putin said at the time. "People argue that we should not escalate and should be wary of doing things that further provoke Putin," Johnson said.
CIA Director William Burns told Zelenskyy that further US aid to Ukraine could be hard to obtain. The two met in secret in Kyiv earlier this month to discuss the war, The Washington Post reported. Their meeting comes as Russia launches an aggressive assault in the east of Ukraine. The visit comes nearly one year after Russia launched an unprovoked war in Ukraine in February 2022. Despite the uncertain nature of ongoing assistance, Zelenskyy left his meeting with Burns assured that the Biden administration remains supportive of Ukraine's plight, The Post reported, citing people familiar with the gathering.
CIA Director Bill Burns met with Zelenskyy on a secret trip ahead of the Russian invasion last year. Burns warned Zelenskyy about Russian assassination plots at a time when Zelenskyy cast doubt on US intel. The details of the Kyiv meeting are laid out in Chris Whipple's forthcoming book on Joe Biden's White House. "This immediately got Zelensky's attention; he was taken aback, sobered by this news," Whipple wrote in the book, set for release on January 17. Whipple wrote.
Reminders of Donald Trump would anger Joe Biden when he gave tours of the White House, per an upcoming book. The revelation comes from "The Fight of His Life: Inside Joe Biden's White House" by Chris Whipple. The Post received a pre-release copy of "The Fight of His Life: Inside Joe Biden's White House." The Washington Post reported in 2019 that Trump installed a room-sized golf simulator at the White House that allowed the former president to hit a ball into a large video screen. It cost approximately $50,000 to install, the newspaper said, citing a former White House official.
President Joe Biden doesn't fully trust his Secret Service detail, a new book says. Per the book, Biden thought parts of the account were untrue. The White House confirmed Major bit someone in March 2021, and the Secret Service confirmed it was an agent. Per the book, Biden went to the spot with a friend and said "Look, the Secret Service are never up here. Insider contacted the White House and Secret Service for responses but did not immediately hear back.
Joe Biden said early in his presidency that Kamala Harris was a "work in progress," according to a new book. "Fight of His Life," by Chris Whipple, chronicles the first two years of the Biden administration. Biden made the "work in progress" remark about Harris to a close friend, according to the book. It says the president was annoyed when told that Harris' husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, had complained about his wife's policy assignments. It's not the first time reports have emerged of tension between Biden and Harris.
Biden said it was "shockingly gracious" of Trump to leave him a letter in the Oval Office. Biden said Trump's letter was "very gracious and generous," per an extract obtained by Politico. "That was very gracious and generous … Shockingly gracious," Biden said of the move, per Politico's excerpt of Whipple's book. "The president wrote a very generous letter," Biden told reporters on January 20, 2021. "Before I did my first briefing, I was in the Oval Office, talking with him about the briefing and anything he wanted me to convey or what I expected," Psaki said.
The historian Chris Whipple said Mark Meadows was the worst White House chief of staff in history. The author Chris Whipple, who has interviewed dozens of White House chiefs of staff, said that Cassidy Hutchinson's shocking testimony before the House January 6 committee has made it abundantly clear that Mark Meadows is by far the "worst" White House chief of staff in history. On December 19, the panel released an executive summary of its findings that was harshly critical of Meadows' book "The Chief's Chief." Whipple wrote the literal book on White House chiefs of staffABC's George Stephanopoulos interviews the author Chris Whipple in 2017. "I've said oftentimes that being White House chief of staff is perhaps the second most powerful job in Washington, D.C.
